How does your skin peel after a sun burn?

I don’t know how to phrase this question, but simply how does your skin peel. I know that Ultraviolet radiation damages the skin cells’s DNA, and then repairs itself using enzymes.

But what is the process and how does the skin peel?

The biggest reason skin peels is because once it is burned, it no longer has any moisture and it simply dies.

The skin from the sunburn becomes very dry and dies, causing it to become very flakey – making it peel.
